The director of training services here where I work has given me an assignment to research the possibilities of using the "Second Life" software as a precursor to hands on training here in the shipyard.
Apparently this technology is already being implemented at Michelin, Philips, O'Reily, and other huge companies.
This would be a great opportunity for employees to learn and practice some of the very strict protocols here in the yard, and it is much more engaging and interactive than watching a PowerPoint or listening to someone talk.
Another way technology and the web are changing the workplace...many international corporations also use this program for collaboration and meetings across continental borders.
